Betrayal Essay

Betrayal is a theme introduced at the very beginning of this play. How does this constant stream of betrayal affect the outcome of the plot and which character is most affected by it.

In the novel “Much Ado About Nothing” it is clear that one of the major theme which was introduce at the beginning of the novel is betrayal. The Oxford pocket school dictionary define betrayal as to harm or be disloyal to a country or another person by helping an enemy or giving information that is confidential. It is clear that the novel can give supporting examples which can relate to this theme. The examples seen in the book is clear and understandable. It is clear that in the novel Don John the bastard brother to Don Pedro the prince of Arragon is the villain and Conrade and Borachio are his followers which are the main betrayers in the novel.

In the novel the melancholy villain Don John threatens to thwart Hero’s innocent love and to quash the natural merriment of the court at Messina. Hero the daughter of Leonato which is the governor of Messina had fallen in love with a young lord of Florence, Claudio. It was love at first sight and they both had plan to get married. However, Don John the source of all evil is idle and quite miserable, his surrounding is peaceful. One of his followers, Borachio had brought him some news which he had over heard that Claudio plans to marry Hero. He is quite pleased with what he heard and now he execute his plan.

Borachio had betrayed his country and its native by accepting the lead role of betrayal from Don John. His plan was that Borachio would wooed Margaret a gentlewoman attending on Hero at Hero’s window and he will call her by the name of Hero. Don John would the call his brother Don Pedro and Claudio to dhow them that Hero is with another man. It was such a believable and real scene he did of course convince his brother and Claudio they were both in shock of this. He had no other choice but to deny Hero’s hand in marriage because she had already felt the heat of a bed.

All this had lead up to Hero’s embarrassment ant public shaming and also her supposedly death. With the help from Dogberry a constable and his watch man they had caught the crooks. The truth had reveal to Leonato and then to Don Pedro and Claudio. They both are sorry for the disgracing of Hero and is sorry for her “death”. he had decided to marry Antonio’s daughter in return. It is quite ironic that Antonio’s daughter is in fact Hero.
